Social Theory, Politics and the Arts Conference Guidelines
Panel presentations
· Each panel typically has four or five papers/presentations. Each presenter will have 15 minutes to present their work and once all presentations have been completed there will be an open question and answer period of about 20 minutes. If multiple authors are presenting a single paper, they will share one 15 minute presentation.
· If you are using a PowerPoint presentation, please submit it to us by email or standard mail on a CD by October 1st, so we can have them loaded on the conference laptops. We can also accept digital video or image files if your presentation includes showing a sample piece of artistic work, but these should be kept to less than 5 minutes of your total presentation. · If you would like to provide a handout, please come prepared with your own copies. We are expecting between 40 and 50 attendees at each panel.
· If you require any special accommodations, please let us know in advance of the conference by sending an email to STPA2007@gmail.com.
Papers
It is not required that you submit a paper in advance. However, if you would like your paper to be available to other conference attendees and the public on the STPA website, or if you would like your paper to be considered for inclusion in the special STPA edition of The Journal of Arts Management, Law, and Society, it must be submitted by September 20, 2007 and meet the submission criteria found at http://www.heldref.org/jamlsmanu.php, including:
Approximately 25-30 typewritten pages, including notes and references, with one inch margins, 12 pt font, and page numbers on every page.
Title page with the paper title; maximum 250 word abstract; author name, affiliation and maximum 100 word biographical sketch (1 per author if there are co-authors); and the date.
References and other formatting should follow the Chicago Manual of Style, 14th Edition (documentation style #2). Legal material should follow the footnote and reference guidelines suggested in A Uniform System of Citation, 13th Edition
Essential notes should be identified with consecutive superscripts and listed in a section entitled NOTES at the end of the text.Papers should be sent to STPA2007@gmail.com as a Word document or a PDF.
Report/Paper/Booklet Distribution
We will have tables in the Conference Lounge for participants to set out free materials for distribution. We expect between 200-250 attendees at the conference and suggest that you bring 25-50 copies of any materials. We can accept mailed packages in advance but will not be able to ship any materials back after the conference.
